Neil Johnstone- ‘How Webinars Help To Grow Your Business’
Posted: Thursday 16th Oct 2008
DigitalMeeting (technilink iT Ltd) are long-standing regulars at the Wired Wessex monthly events at the Slug and Lettuce, Winchester.
They have always found the evenings enjoyable and interesting: however, when asked if they would like to speak at the September meeting, it posed a particular challenge.
Neil Johnstone is the Customer Services Manager for DigitalMeeting, and it fell to him to speak on the night.
“It was an honour to be asked, there’s no doubt about that. But, me being me, I wondered how I could give a presentation with a bit more of a wow factor than droning away in front of a set of powerpoint slides.”
The event also stood out as the room was set up rather differently to usual. As it happens, this was for technical reasons. “The best way to put it would be ‘cabling issues’. I had to set up so that I could project my laptop onto the screen as usual, but also use some external speakers, a clip-on mike and a webcam.”
The speakers were there, of course, for a good reason.
“One of the main uses for DigitalMeeting is the ability to link a number of people in separate locations all at the same time. Obviously, at a Wired Wessex networker the idea is to get everybody in the same room to do the networking as usual. When it came to explaining the theory and figures behind why Webinars help a business to grow I realised that our dear departed Hannah Neate had previously done a public webinar on this very subject. So, I played back a portion of the recording of an old event to show the usefulness of recording and podcasting.”
And what better way to demonstrate that than with a bit of actual conferencing? “As I said, I wanted to do something a bit different and also to show that conferencing isn’t just for the boardroom. I got set up on the wi-fi in the room – and I must say a big thank you to the Slug for that – and I did a quick web conference with Amy and a video conference with Richard. Hopefully not too many people had noticed them slip out when I started talking!”
None we know of. Neil also had a jolly good time too. “I really enjoyed presenting at Wired Wessex and to add the cherry on top, we actually picked up some bona-fide business from the night, making it a success all around!”
Not bad…
